Two Babies and a Bug

Monday i spent a majority of the daytime with the toddlers.  I learned they have a very structured routine on the weekdays.
Wake up around 8am, potty, breakfast, change clothes (they change their clothes after every meal- it's a necessity), prayer time (for a half hour! really!), then classroom for a few hours where they play until snack time (which they also pray before having), potty time again, outside time, lunch time, change clothes, nap, play time, dinner, bath, new clothes, tv for a half hour, and finally bedtime.

I was there from prayer time, took a break during their nap time, and went back all the way until bedtime.  Bedtime was funny- when I asked the 20 toddlers if they're ready for bed now half of them smiled and yelled "No!" and ran around laughing and half burst into tears.  I actually really enjoyed bedtime though because it gives you a few minutes with each child individually as you dry them off after their bath, change them into their bedtime clothes, and help them into their crib.  It's hard to come by one-on-one time at Sanyu.

The classroom was chaotic but fun.  It's a cement square room divided by standing cabinets.  On one half of the room are little chairs and tables where they eat snack and pray, and on the other half is a thinly laid out carpet, a shelf full of baby shoes, a gigantic tub of toddler-appropriate sized lego blocks, and thats about it. During play time I was tackled to floor by the babies and spent the whole time sitting on the carpet with them.  Two of the children peed on the rug that morning and nothing was done about it.  I'm now positive that that carpet is completely saturated in urine.

My favorite part of the day was outside play time.  I was sitting on the dirt next to the patio and I saw a large beetle crawling across the ground.  I pointed it out to one of the boys near me and I watched him and another boy become completely delighted in following the bug!  I wish I got a picture of it.  I watched them crouched over with their heads together, following the bug and laughing.  Over one bug.  Kids find entertainment in the strangest, simplest things.
